I've had a Raspberry PI laying around for a number of years. Just sitting around doing nothing. I've been trying to come up with a use for it and never could, until now.
Why not a Solar powered game camera?
I have an extra panel that was off one of the deer feeders and an extra battery so why not use them to power the PI. (We will come back to this in a bit.)
OK … now off to look for some sensors. What do I want ?? Well we need ...
This should be enough to get us started.
(The pressure sensor has not been purchased yet. It will still be in the project, I've just been forgetting about it)
I started looking around and found some really good prices for things but they were in the UK and I really wanted to find a vender that I could get product from in a few days . Ended up going with a place called oddwires.com.
First Order looked like this:
The whole order was about $14 with about $4.50 or so for shipping.
The order came in and I was ready to start building. Then I realized, I never, in all my building, never used a breadboard. WOW. Found a easy tutorial and was up and running.
Here is the camera that I used.
The voltage convertor purchase was a bit more scary. I have never bought anything from this place in China. (I have talked to another person I know and he has bought a lot of items from them without issues.)
Ran into a problem after attaching the camera. The Pi would not boot.
I thought the whole time that my spare solar cell and battery was 12v Well I finally got off my butt and went and looked. Guess what, yep, 6 volts. The 12-6v convertor is not needed.
